ACCEPTABLE USE

In support of the VISTAS CENTER as a resource for the blind and visually impaired, computers have been placed in the Central Office and several of Action, Inc.’s Community Resource Centers located in its ten-county service area. In order to ensure everyone an equal opportunity to use the computers, all users must sign in at each center. Users must show valid identification, i.e., driver's license or personal identification card, etc., to use the center’s computers or software applications. Each center will maintain scheduling books for their computers and will establish guidelines. Computers are available with assistive programs and software chosen for visual, cognitive and mobility-impaired users.

VISTAS will accept reservations for up to one week in advance in person or by phone. Computers may be reserved for a maximum of two hours, renewable subject to demand. Only one appointment can be made at a time. Computers may be used for a maximum of two hours. If no one is waiting, the time can be extended to three hours., however staff reserves the right to ask that a user who has already exceeded the two hour limit relinquish his position for a new user.

Only two persons are permitted to work at each computer. Eating, drinking, smoking or gum chewing is strictly forbidden around the computer area as in any other part of the Resource Centers.

Most software has been loaded on hard disks and is available at time of sign-in. Users may not load their own software on the hard disk but may provide their own software on specified terminals during the session. Arcade type games are prohibited. VISTAS is not responsible for erasure or other damages to patron's software resulting from computer use. Manuals will be provided for all VISTAS-owned software. Users must supply their own data disks.

Users agree to take care of all equipment, diskettes, and all other materials. Users should immediately report any equipment or material malfunction to Center personnel. Users are responsible for any damage caused to VISTAS computer equipment or software that is due to negligence or intentional abuse.

Users agree to observe all copyright laws which will be displayed. Users agree not to duplicate any computer program or documentation provided by VISTAS which is not in the public domain. VISTAS assumes no responsibility for a user's violation of these laws.

VISTAS makes no guarantee, either express or implied, with respect to any equipment, programs, or other materials, their quality, performance, or fitness for any particular purpose. All materials and equipment are of a "demonstration" nature, and are provided for use "AS IS". The entire risk as to the quality and performance of the computer equipment/program/documentation is with the user.

In no event shall VISTAS be liable for actual, incidental or consequential damages in connection with or arising from the use of any equipment, programs, or other materials. Any data lost as a result of faulty media, programs, etc. upon data storage is not the responsibility of VISTAS or staff. No private files may be stored at the VISTAS Central Office or network sites.

Printing fees may be charged at the rate set in the Fee Schedule. Disks may also be available for purchase at each Resource Center.

Information concerning users of the computers, including their names is confidential. Any violation of established rules or procedures will result in permanent forfeiture of computer use. 12/31/01
